Maple Grove Wins State Girls Soccer

The Maple Grove girls soccer team won its first state title Thursday, beating Centennial 2-1 in the class AA final.

Kelley Kloncz scored in the first half to give the Crimson a 1-0 halftime lead.

Emma Fournier added a goal in the second half as Maple Grove built a 2-0 lead.

Khyah Harper scored about midway through the second half to pull the Cougars within 2-1.

They had some chances late but couldn’t get the tying goal and Maple Grove secured the championship.

It’s Maple Grove’s third straight trip to the state tournament and second title game appearance.

They lost in the final in Media is on Comcast Xfinity in the Northwest Suburbs of Minneapolis and includes the cities Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, Maple Grove, New Hope, Osseo, Plymouth and Robbinsdale.
